Organized Crime — UN Style

Tuesday Sep 27, 2005
Josh Greenberger asked:

The U.N. over the years has turned into a setting that more closely resembles a "family" of organized crime, that a "peacekeeping organization." This could be a problem more dangerous than terrorism? The term; crime "organized, usually evokes visions of extortion, loan sharking, contract killings, illegal gambling and the like. Rarely draws up images of big corporations, much less an international company that 's trusted with one billion dollars and given the latitude to issue, probably morally based, "resolutions" and "condemnations." But the United Nations (UN) over the years have turned into a setting that more closely resembles a "family" of organized crime, that a "peacekeeping organization." During the'70s and eighties, the UN was responsible for work with a multi-dollar aid to help hundreds of thousands of refugees settle in eastern Ethiopia in Somalia. The UN officials knew that this influx of Ethiopians in Somalia was due to the Somali dictator Siyad Barre 's promise of a better life through the help of UNHCR (UN High Commissioner for Refugees). But instead of giving these refugees to the best life, bar the armed to the teeth and made to help the government fight the rebel Somali National Movement. In an attempt to escape Barre 's genocide, 2.5 million people was possible "to displaced.UN; peacekeeping" troops were in Congo in 2000 to stop a war that boundary rabies. In the years that followed, there were allegations of widespread sexual abuse of women, boys and girls of the Congolese UN staff Rev. Alfred Buju, the Catholic priest in the eastern city of Bunia, said that people feared UN staff He got so bad that to remove an entire contingent of South African troops from Congo because of sex crimes against them. Before 2005, hundreds of sex crime allegations against UN staff, only two were prosecuted. In 2001 it was reported that UNHCR officials in Nairobi had been taking bribes to at least five years of thousands of refugees who sought reinstatement in the west. This corruption was hardly a secret, had been the subject of common gossip in refugee circles in the now-infamous oil-for-Food Nairobi. The, which operated from the 1996 to 2003, allowed Iraq to sell oil generate funds for humanitarian goods for the Iraqi people. Under management of the UN, and under the watchful eye of then-UN secretary general Kofi Annan, this program turned into the most massive scam in history. In a counter-epidemic of illegal oil surcharges and illegal deception involved about 60 countries and 2,000 companies. Companies and individuals Russians and the French got the bulk of the contracts as a reward for their governments' opposition to sanctions against Iraq. This is far from an exhaustive list of known corruption of the UN Who knows how many crimes are not even the UN reported. Ironic, or funny, the UN 'page of the Web site of the human rights of s reads: "Virtually every United Nations body and specialized agency is involved to some degree in protecting rights." Humans, suggest the change of "protection" to "violation." The notion that the UN could make negative judgments and condemnations polarization unscrupulous may have seemed like a stretch to some people a few years ago. After all, it 's assumed to be a peacekeeping organization. "But in light of years of habitual criminal behavior and substance, it' s harder to believe that any decision that the UN can take just, honest or impartial. Over the past four years alone, it 's estimated that 300,000 people have been killed and 2.2 left stranded in the genocide in Darfur. There 's not been a General Assembly resolution condemning Sudan for human rights violations throughout this time. In its entire history, the Commission on Human Rights UN never adopted a single resolution critical of some other egregious violators of human rights: China, Syria, Saudi Arabia and Zimbabwe.Where is "the protection of human rights? "But Israel, a state in which Arabs enjoy more rights and the freedom they do in most Arab states, who state 's laws are so liberal Arabs even sit on the Israeli parliament, have been the subject of 70% of all country-specific criticisms of the board of the UN human rights Call this "bias" is a ridiculous understatement. The words that best describe this situation is shameful bigotry, racism and moral bankruptcy. Over the years, the UN has done far more to exacerbate conflict to facilitate peace. You 'd be pressed to find conflicts that were brought to an end while a direct result of UN efforts But the accounts of massive human pain and suffering directly attributable to the UN are innumerable. There are even cases of the UN-bys with terrorists. In 2000, video cameras caught the UN to the terrorists of Hezbollah who kidnapped Israeli soldiers. Despite repeated demands by the Israelis to dump the tapes, the then-UN secretary general, Kofi Annan rejected. For an "organization" of the peace, not just the evidence that may help catch terrorists is absolutely appalling. What 's worse, a UN soldier sued later UN troops actually aided the abduction. There is a well-publicized video of combatants and weapons armed Palestinian ambulances from moving around the UN in Gaza. There are pictures of the flags of the UN and Hezbollah flying from side to side in an observation post of Lebanese. How much one needs to understand how depraved this organization is completely decrepit is it? The UN has become indistinguishable from the same nations that aims to safeguard against despot. With terrorists actively seeking nuclear weapons, we can not afford more corruption of the UN and "the curtain of smoke; resolutions" and "condemnations" that behind the world's attention from real and serious threats we face today . The UN must be improved to at least remotely similar to an entity that belongs to the human race. If we continue to allow diplomatic immunity be misinterpreted as a license to create mayhem, we could soon be faced with some absurd dilemmas like: If Osama bin Laden comes to New York as an ambassador of a Middle East country, we give an escort UN police or the central reservation? by JoshGreenberger.com
